Nothing Truly Ends, Everything Changes

Visionary artwork of a robed figure meditating on a rocky shore at sunset, gazing at a great tree whose four branches carry spring blossom, summer green, autumn fire and winter bareness, ringed by the phases of the moon, a glowing infinity symbol, a spiral galaxy, the Earth and a luminous lotus, with the spirits of departed loved ones rising in golden light.

The Eternal Dance of Love, Loss, and Change

Nothing is guaranteed except change...

“The only constant in life is change.” — Attributed to Heraclitus (c. 535–475 BCE), ancient Greek philosopher.

Everything comes and goes..

Waves on the ocean shoreline..

Seasons come and go...

One minute we are young and if blessed old age creeps upon us.

“As the ocean ‘waves,’ the universe ‘peoples.’ Every individual is an expression of the whole realm of nature, a unique action of the total universe.” — Alan Watts (1915–1973), The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are (1966).

Sadness is often experienced with goodbyes...

And more so if the goodbyes are not given to us in a reciprocal manner.

Grief can follow where life once bloomed but is then snatched away by time or unexpected departure..

I say departure in referring to when a being, a cherished soul leaves this mortal realm and seems to be no more...

The heart no longer beating, the eyes no longer shining, the voice no longer singing.

We miss our loved ones like a hole in the heart, an aching in our very soul.

But when a being leaves this mortal realm, it's not the end but the experience of eternal life has just changed.

“It was not born; It will never die, nor once having been, can It cease to be.” — Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 2, Verse 20 (ancient Hindu scripture; translation by Shri Purohit Swami).

Some have different perceptions, words for what animates our mortal frame...

Some say souls, energy, life force...

But it is scientific fact that energy can't be destroyed only changed.

Whether you believe in pagan mana, oriental Chi, Egyptian Ka, or native American great spirit.

We are all energy, interconnected in the physical and energetic realms. Where as it seems we are born or die....

“Everything is interconnected. The universe is not made of separable parts.” — Federico Faggin (born 1941), physicist, inventor of the microprocessor and consciousness researcher.

The energetic manifestation of us only changes.

Where as we left in the mortal realm are left with the grief, loss, hole in our lives, when a loved one moves on, it is not the end for us, or them. We still carry the flame of them in our heart and spirit, and they move on to the next stage of the energetic, spiritual journey.

“Birth and death are only doors through which we pass, sacred thresholds on our journey.” — Thich Nhat Hanh (1926–2022), Contemplation on No-Coming and No-Going.

The ones who are no longer with us in the physical realm are still with us...

In our memories, hearts, words and actions...

They are just free of their mortal presence.

Free to travel energetic fields few of us can perceive. But somehow, sometimes we experience.

Whether it be through a change in perception, synchronicity, or feelings.

Nothing truly ends, there are cycles within cycles..

From birth to death, from the shifting seasons, to the birth and death of stars, everything is in flux, a state of change...

All is connected!

You may think it sounds like hippy talk, but even modern science is catching up with ancient thought through quantum physics and postulations.

And if you feel it's all nonsense go and search on YouTube

“Buckle your seatbelt, Dorothy, ’cause Kansas is going bye-bye.” — Cypher, The Matrix (1999)

At the end of the day we are free, free to choose.

Choose to believe what we wish. But when great minds both ancient and new point to a similar perception, a perception that everything is energy and connected, in my perception it pays us to pay attention.

The universe is not cold matter, it's an interconnected wholeness, the iron in our blood comes from stars exploding throughout time and space, we are physically made of cosmic events and elements. We are the universe in physical form experiencing itself as a human, for a while.

All is connected.

“One, the totality of what exists, knows itself through our own knowing ourselves.” — Federico Faggin, Spacetime Is the Memory of a Self-Knowing Universe.

Such big concepts may not seem helpful, or ease the burden of grief when a loved one departs from us.

But to know it is part of a continuous journey, both for ourselves and them.

And that in deepest reality we are all still connected one way or another hopefully lifts our hearts enough to know we are the love we give to ourselves and one another. Love is not merely an emotion, it's a force, dare I say the force of creation itself.

“Love is the most universal, the most tremendous and the most mystical of cosmic forces.” — Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (1881–1955), French philosopher, scientist and Jesuit priest, Human Energy.

“Now through Love all coming together into one.” — Empedocles (c. 490–430 BCE), ancient Greek philosopher, Fragment 17 (translated excerpt).

So for those who have left us, hold love for them.

In our hearts, memories, actions and words.

They still live within us and always will as long as the universe ebbs, flows, creates.

Wish them well on their journey, and live life as they would want you to.

May you know well-being

May you know happiness.

May you know peace.

May you know love.
